When Michelangelo carved the statue of David from a single block of marble, he said that the statue of David was inside there waiting for him. All he had to do was chisel it out.
What's revolutionary about the Prettau Zirconia implant bridge is that it's made in a very similar way. What Zirconia is, it's one of the most durable solid material known to man, and we mill it out of that single block of Zirconia much in the same way that Michelangelo did. The set of teeth are just there waiting.
The end result is the teeth that you get are the most durable possible. With proper care they can last a lifetime. They will not stain, chip or break. I love giving that to my patients. I love offering them that option of a set of teeth that they don't have to worry about.
Very often for these patients when they come in with a set of failing teeth and they're not able to chew, they're not able to smile, they're closed off from the world. We want to help them. We want to envision what possibilities there are for them. A lot of these people, the solution is a Zirconia implant bridge. What we do is we can look at them and see where we envision them to be and I can see them in a set of teeth.
The amazing thing is when we get finished, when we have that final set of teeth to give to them and we can put it in their mouth and they pick up the mirror and they look at their smile for the first time in 20, 30, 40 years, there's often tears of joy. They can't even believe what they were waiting for, what took so long for them, and they're just so happy. At least once a month, at least once every few weeks a patient stands up out of the chair, comes to me and gives a hug because they feel like we helped them so much, and that's the first day.
Always the patient comes back a few weeks later and we get to hear the stories. We get to hear how they're going out for dinners again, how they're no longer worried about their teeth falling out, they're no longer worried about the pain. That's what makes this job very rewarding. That's what makes dentistry very rewarding, to have a patient tell us that they were miserable in their life, they weren't able to smile, they weren't able to interact in the way that they would like to.
By giving them an implant bridge, by giving them a set of solid teeth that gives them confidence, we can now actually change that patient's life for the better. I used to think it was just about the teeth, and now it's really about changing lives so I'm very happy with what we do.
