Dr. Alex Hecht: Implants are really not just used in dentistry. Hip
replacements are also the same type of material. They're titanium. Knee
replacements are the same type of titanium. As a matter of fact, there are
quite a few implant companies that make implants for dentistry also make
the hip replacements.
Dr. Jason Hecht: A lot of people are interested in All-in-Four. What is All-
in-Four? Essentially what it is, it's all the teeth on four implants. It's
one, two, three, four. And the way we employ our All-in-Four, the times we
employ All-in-Four are when someone has very little bone and there's no
other way to do it other than putting in four implants.
There are considerations for the top jaw and considerations for the bottom
jaw. What exists on the top jaw is towards the back of the mouth is the
maxillary sinus which is an open air space over here. An open air space
means no bone. What we do is we angle an implant backward so we can get
teeth as far back as possible while catching the area in the front of the
jaw where there is more bone. That's why we use it in the top jaw.
Places we use it in the bottom jaw is also when someone has very little
bone, and they don't have bone going further back where they have this
nerve that travels over here. What we with the CAT scan is we find the
place where the nerve stops. We put our implants in front of that nerve
over here. And again we angle the implant backwards so that we get as many
teeth backwards as possible. That's the All-in-Four technique.
